Fire door ironmongery checklist
A fire door only works as a complete assembly. Every part, from the hinges to the seals, needs to be suitable for fire doors and compatible with the door's certification.
What to check
- Hardware is marked as suitable for fire doors and matches the door's rating
- The door closes fully by itself from any angle
- Intumescent seals, and smoke seals where required, are fitted and undamaged
- Gaps around the door are within the manufacturer's limits
This is a general checklist, not a fire safety assessment. A competent fire door inspector should confirm what each door needs, and replacement parts must be compatible with the door's test evidence.
