Garden room materials: a checklist
Garden rooms are a popular project, and most of the materials come from one supplier. Check whether yours needs planning permission or building regulations approval before you start.
Base
- Concrete, or ground screws or pads
- Treated timber for the floor frame
- Damp-proof membrane
Frame and roof
- Treated or CLS timber for the walls
- Roof joists
- OSB or plywood sheathing
- Breathable membrane
- Flat roof covering, such as EPDM or felt
Insulation and lining
- Insulation boards for floor, walls and roof
- Vapour control layer
- Plasterboard or timber lining
Outside
- Cladding, such as shiplap or composite
- Fascia and trims
- Doors and windows
Inside
- Flooring and underlay
- Skirting and trims
- Locks and door hardware
